Community Work Placement Initiative

Tús is a work initiative managed by Longford Community Resources Clg on behalf of the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP). Individuals must be on jobseekers allowance for one year and be “signing on” on a full time basis.

Each Tús placement consists of 19.5 hours per week for a duration of 52 weeks. Participants are no longer required to sign on the live register and secondary benefits such as medical cards, rent allowance etc. are not affected. Participants receive a minimum payment of €225.50 including a €22.50 top up and increases to reflect personal circumstances. Payments are made weekly via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) to Bank, Credit Union or An Post Smart accounts. A stamp (PRSI) is paid and participants are Universal Social Charge (USC) exempt. Participants are free to take up part time work outside their 19.5 hours on Tús. Please note that participants do not qualify for Family Income Supplement (FIS).

Potential participants are periodically referred at random from the DEASP. Individuals can make a self-referral onto the scheme by using the Tús 7 Form available from their case officer at the DEASP.

Longford Community Resources Clg currently has an allocation of 100 participants. These are placed with community and voluntary organisations throughout the County. Community and Voluntary Groups can make applications for consideration to become placement providers by contacting LCRL.
