COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
Community development is one of the key measures under the Local and Community Development Programme and is also a key measure in Longford Community Resources Ltd strategy for countering disadvantage and promoting equality. Using a community development approach, LCRL recognizes that the priority is to work with people and communities affected by disadvantage and/or poverty to achieve their full participation and full involvement in the planning and decision making processes which affect their lives and their communities. Using these guiding principles, LCRL works with the most disadvantaged communities throughout County Longford, including people living in estates of designated disadvantage i.e. older people, women of designated disadvantage, lone parents, migrant workers, asylum seekers, Travellers, and people with disabilities to enhance their capacity and enable them to participate in the issues, decisions and development of their communities. We currently employ a Community Development Worker, an Integration Liaison Worker (see project for Refugees / Asylum Seekers / Migrants) and fund the employment of a worker with disadvantaged women (see Work with Disadvantaged Women). The Community Development Worker works in disadvantaged estates and co-ordinates actions to promote social inclusion with a number of issue groups, e.g. the Social Inclusion Network.
The following are examples of our Community Development Work: Social Inclusion Network For more information please contact LCRL at 043-3345555 and ask for Felicia Barrins, the Community Development Worker or email fbarrins@lcrl.ie.
