LEADER is a community-led approach to local development delivering EU funding into rural businesses and communities through Ireland’s Rural Development Programme 2014- 2022 and the new LEADER programme which will run from 2023-2027.
The programme promotes social inclusion, poverty reduction and the economic development of rural areas. It does this through targeted supports that focus on themes and priorities identified in the Longford Local Development Strategy – a community-led action plan for Longford. The new Local Development Strategy (LDS) is currently under development for the new 2023-2027 programme and will be made available on this web site once finalised.
LEADER 2014-2022
The current LEADER programme 2014-2022 is now winding down and will formally be closed for applications on 31st August 2023. During this programme LEADER has supported over 150 projects in the enterprise, tourism and community sectors.
LEADER 2023-2027
County Longford has been allocated €5.8m under the Rural Development Programme 2023- 2027 to support the sustainable development of the county. The process of conducting public consultations and focus groups has now been completed and feedback has been gathered on the challenges, issues and opportunities facing rural communities and businesses and how LEADER can best support them. The feedback from the consultation process will form the basis for the development of the Local Development Strategy.
