Participants

The TÚS Community Work Placement Initiative is an activation initiative for those who are unemployed and on the Live Register.  The aims of TÚS are to provide short-term, quality work opportunities for those who are unemployed while at the same time providing beneficial services to communities and voluntary organisations.

Potential participants will be contacted by their local social welfare office and offered the opportunity to be considered for local placement as opportunities arise.

When those identified agree to participate, they will be referred to Longford Community Resources Ltd, by the Department of Social Protection, for interview and consideration for placement.  Participants must work 19½ hours per week and participation will be for a continuous period of one year (52 weeks).

The majority of people referred to Longford Community Resources Ltd by the Department of Social Protection to participate in TÚS are selected on a random basis by the Department, however 20% of the  available places can now be filled on an assisted or self-referral basis. The assisted/self-referral basis affords a number of people who fulfil the qualifying criteria the opportunity to avail of short-term quality work placements and break the cycle of unemployment.

An individual seeking participation on TÚS Community Work Placement Initiative through the assisted/self-referral basis must complete a Tús self-referral form, this completed form can be handed in to Longford Community Resources Ltd or the Local Intreo office.  In all cases, the TÚS self-referral form must be processed through the Case Officer in the Dept. of Social Protection Intreo office.

Further information can be obtained in the list of frequently asked questions on the website of the Dept. of Social Protection.
